LONDON, Ont. -- The Toronto Maple Leafs are on Morgan Riellys mind, and they have been for some time. The 19-year-old defenceman is the organizations top prospect, and his complex situation of perhaps being too good for the WHL, too young for the AHL and not yet ready for the NHL has been well-documented. All Rielly could do over the summer was give himself the best possible chance when training camp opens Wednesday. "What was driving me was I was trying to make the Leafs," said Rielly, who worked out back home in Vancouver. "I was training hard, I was on the ice a lot and obviously my goal I had in mind was to play in Toronto this year. That was what was driving me to wake up every morning early and train and to go on the ice." Rielly was asked plenty during Leafs prospect camp in June about going back to junior with the Moose Jaw Warriors if he cant earn a roster spot in Toronto, and he will be under the microscope plenty as his real audition begins later this week. "Hes a kid, he handles everything so well," Toronto Marlies coach Steve Spott said. "Morgans a very intelligent young man. If you speak to him, hes mature beyond his years, hes going to be able to handle the media that this city presents. I just think he understands he has to be a step above on the ice and he has to be a step above off the ice." To be a step above on the ice means playing with the same kind of poise that he has shown when talking about his tough spot. Rielly insists he doesnt think too much about what it would take to make the Maple Leafs, but hes not blind to the depth chart. "Id be lying if I told you I didnt know what Capgeek was," Rielly said. "Ive checked, but Im not constantly checking. I dont put too much concentration into whos under contract and all that kind of stuff. Im just going to play hard and try to earn my spot." Rielly could be helped in the number crunching if Cody Franson isnt signed or the Maple Leafs trade a defenceman to get deals done under the cap with Franson and fellow restricted free agent Nazem Kadri. But the competition for spots should be heated between Rielly, Paul Ranger, T.J. Brennan and Korbinian Holzer. In preparing for training camp and the upcoming season, wherever hell spend it, Rielly didnt change much of his training regimen. He said Leafs management told him to continue his regular development. "Theres been some chatter about I have to change this and change that ... (like) You have to be a lot bigger, a lot stronger, blah, blah, blah, " Rielly said. "But they just told me to keep doing what Ive been doing and just play the way I did in junior and whatnot. They just told me to keep working hard, basically." As hard as he works, there might not be room for Rielly on a blue-line that already includes Dion Phaneuf, Franson, Jake Gardiner, Carl Gunnarsson, Mark Fraser and John-Michael Liles. But its not as if his destination has been predetermined. "I think as an organization everyones on the same page where his play will dictate ultimately where he goes," Spott said. "Its going to be about development and whats going to be best for Morgan in the long term. That, I think, has to be the idea here. If he can come in and play and contribute, then obviously hes earned that opportunity." Rielly just wants to make it a "hard choice" on general manager Dave Nonis, coach Randy Carlyle and the rest of Torontos brass. But if he has to go back to Moose Jaw, Rielly has said all the right things about handling that disappointment. Dealing with it would be another test of Riellys maturity. "Ultimately attitude is everything," said Spott, who coached the OHLs Kitchener Rangers for five seasons. "Those kids motivation is to help the junior teams win. Theyre usually captains, so they get that experience and then youve got a world junior (tournament), so there is some extra motivation still at the junior level that he can accomplish. Hes a special player, hes mature and no matter where he ends up this year I know that his character wont ever be challenged." DOVER, Del. -- His chase for a Cup championship all but over, Joey Logano turned his pursuit toward Dover history. Logano dominated at Dover International Speedway once more and took the checkered flag in the tracks Nationwide Series race for the fourth straight time. Logano became the first driver to win four straight races at Dover in NASCARs second-tier series. He pulled away in the No. 22 Ford down the stretch Saturday and was never seriously challenged for the win on the mile track. "Its been my favourite race track ever since I started here," he said. With good reason. Logano has swept the two Dover races the last two seasons. Loganos Ford, however, flunked post-race inspection because both sides off the front were too low. NASCAR will announce penalties later. Logano, who started on the pole and led 106 laps, won for the third time this season. Four drivers have won 11 times in the No. 22 Ford, all with crew chief Jeremy Bullins. Brad Keselowski, AJ Allmendinger and Ryan Blaney have all won in the No. 22. "There were a lot of streaks to be kept alive today and we managed to pull that off," Bullins said. Kyle Larson was second, followed by Kevin Harvick, Brian Vickers and Elliott Sadler. Sam Hornish Jr. was 17th and had his points lead shrink to four over Austin Dillon with five races left "If we could have lived up to our potential today, I would feel a lot better about it," Hornish said. "We go to some tracks that I really like. Theres not a place that I dont like that were going to go, so Im really excited about what weve got." For all his Saturday success, Logano has yet to transfer those regular wins to the Sprint Cup series. He has had only one top-five finish in nine career Cup starts at Dover. He blamed a string of bad luck that derailed his Dover Cup races.dddddddddddd "Ive had a lot of fast race cars here there were capable of running top fives," he said. "Ive had loose wheels, Ive had a flat tire, Ive had motors blowing up. Ive gone through a lot at this race track." Logano made the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship field in his first season at Penske Racing, though it came with a dash of controversy because of the Richmond scandal. His team was placed on probation after radio traffic appeared to show Front Row Racings crew chief and spotter talking about David Gilliland giving Logano a pivotal spot on the track in exchange for something unidentified from Penske Racing. He blew an engine in the first Chase race and finished 37th. He was 14th last week at New Hampshire and is buried in 12th in the standings. "Were not out of it yet," Logano said. "We can still win it. Weve got a tough road ahead of us. We really cant have a bad race in the next eight." Logano would find some solace in helping Roger Penske win the Nationwide owners championship. "I would love to be on the list of guys to help him do that," Logano said. Cup drivers led the way at Dover, but Larson again showed why he could be a force in years to come. Owner Chip Ganassi will promote the 21-year-old Larson to the Cup Series in his flagship No. 42 Chevrolet. Larson is among a new wave of young drivers considered to be the future of NASCAR. He had a few hundred reasons to feel good about his Dover trip. Larson was legal to gamble in the tracks adjacent casino and won more than $600 dollars on Friday night. NASCAR said an unidentified crew member on Morgan Shepherds team was hospitalized after the race.
